JSconfUY 2014

post-cover
This is a quick one ;)

Last week I went to Uruguay to the JSConfUY, first one on that country, had to be there.

I'm not going to post a full detailed review of the thing, but if you're into that kind of thing here's one that's pretty accurate.

Overall for me it was a good enough experience, very well organized, not mind-blowing in content but pleasant to attend and chat with some very influential people on the JS community.

I feel they went more for the shock value of the names in the lineup than for the actual content, which is understandable given it's the first one.

Lots of Globant folks attended, got the chance to drink again with some dear friends:

Some highlights:

James Halliday's talk was very interesting, mostly for the demos, will be checking out baudio, a tool to synthesise sounds and music algorithmically (Code AND synth music??? this was made for me to have a nerd overflow).

Forbes Lindesay's talks, How old is this guy? 12? Anyway impressed by his eloquence. They make 'em younger every day...

His talk on Promises was a little weak, but I think is mostly my impression, I wanted to yell to the Stage "They're PLACEHOLDERS FOR RESULTS THAT ARE PROVIDED LATER IN TIME GIVEN AN ASYNCHRONOUS OPERATION!!". You know, when you learn something as cool as promises you tend to stick with your definitions and everything else sounds just not right.

Jean Carlo Nascimento's multi-language talk. I'm really not sure what was he talking about, but I surely had fun. Nah, really I liked the MEAN stack, I've used most of this tools, except for mongo.

Zeno Rocha's talk on Web Components was clear and very well driven, again, no new concepts but still I got away with a few resources like customelements.io

Jeremy Ashkenas's talk on backbone patterns was quite interesting to me.
Nice to reassure the power of simplicity contained in Backbone, some very useful and clear patterns from the creator himself.

I missed the big keynote with Mr. Douglas Crockford, the star of the venue, because of trip schedule issues (I live 1000 km from Montevideo, and I'm poor...).
Although I had the chance to greet him, fanboy a little and even rub shoulders with him (twice, I'm blessed now).

Really nice experience, will definitely be coming back on the next installment, and maybe this time I won't chicken out and submit a talk.
